Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar
- Launch: Rahul Gandhi began a 16-day, 1,300 km Voter Adhikar Yatra from Sasaram, joined by Tejashwi Yadav and other I.N.D.I.A. bloc leaders.
- Main Charge: He accused the Election Commission (EC) of colluding with the BJP to manipulate Bihar’s electoral rolls through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, calling it a conspiracy to steal elections.”
- Criticism of EC:
- Gandhi claimed EC officials demanded an affidavit from him after exposing “vote chori” but not from BJP leaders.
- Alleged that a 2023 law protects EC members from accountability, making them pliant to BJP.
- Allies’ Support:
- Mallikarjun Kharge: Said EC acts like an agent of Modi govt and threatens the Constitution.
- Lalu Prasad Yadav: Urged unity to defeat BJP-RSS, despite health concerns.
- Tejashwi Yadav: Accused Nitish Kumar govt of copying opposition promises and warned against disenfranchising voters.
- Left leaders (CPI-ML, CPI-M, VIP) also slammed the EC, highlighting that many women’s names were dropped from rolls.
- Public Response: Large crowds waved Congress, RJD, and Left flags, shouting slogans against BJP and the EC.
- Route & Finale: The hybrid yatra (on foot + by vehicle) will cover over 20 districts, including Gaya, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Champaran, Siwan, and Bhojpur. It will end with a major rally in Patna on September 1.
